Make Healthy Eating A Breeze: Our Review Of Daily Harvest

Nutrient-Dense, Hydrating Food Made Easy

I’m in the habit of throwing together whatever is in my fridge or pantry on a busy night. That means I end up eating pasta with marinara or stir-fry three times a week, loading up on carbs and empty calories. But buying produce, preparing it, using it all before it expires, finding the right recipes, cooking and cleaning—it can be a lot of work. I don’t always have the time or energy for that.

“From savory food to smoothies and lattes, Daily Harvest has something for everyone—and all of their recipes are packed with 95% organic fruits and veggies.”

When I received my order of Daily Harvest at my doorstep, I was excited to find an array of nine colorful cups with perfectly-portioned fresh foods inside. From savory food to smoothies and lattes, Daily Harvest has something for everyone—and all of their recipes are packed with 95% organic fruits and veggies. It’s an easy way for someone like me to effortlessly add healthy staples into my diet on a daily basis. The convenience of having nutrient-dense food at my fingertips feels like a game changer.

And better yet, each of the bowls takes just minutes to prepare. Once it’s ready, it tastes fresh and as good as a homemade dish. Here’s how simple preparation is:

  • Heat the hearty Harvest Bowls on the stove or in a microwave.

  • Blend the smoothies with a liquid of your choice (Daily Harvest provides suggestions on the back of each cup!)

  • Add water or broth to the soups and heat on the stove or in a microwave—they also offer delicious chilled soups that you can add water or broth to and blend, like the Tomato + Bell Pepper Gazpacho.

  • Soak the Oat Bowls in a plant-based milk of your choice overnight, or heat if you’d like a warm bowl.

Daily Harvest Review

What I Tried

Daily Harvest offers more than 50 unique plant-based recipes—something for any time of day and whatever you’re craving. The lattes (which come in packs of three), smoothies, oat bowls, and chia bowls are perfect for breakfast or a snack. The Harvest Bowls are great for lunch and dinner, and there are even three breakfast-inspired Harvest Bowls in case you’re looking for a savory start to the day.

Plans start at $6.99/cup—you select 9, 12, or 24 cups weekly, or 24 cups monthly (you can mix and match any of the cups!) You can switch up your picks before each delivery, change your box size any time, and skip weeks as needed. If you want to take a break, you can pause your plan or you can fully cancel any time. After ordering online, you get the boxes delivered to your doorstep.

Upon receiving my box, I tried the Cinnamon + Banana oat bowl. It contains gluten-free rolled oats, butternut squash, cacao nibs, and—believe it or not—reishi, an adaptogenic mushroom that fights stress and strengthens immunity. While I normally wouldn’t include squash or mushroom in an oat bowl, I couldn’t even tell they were in there (the flavors all mix together and the bowl is delightfully maple-y and cinnamon-y).

Daily Harvest Review

For lunch, I tried the Sweet Potato + Wild Rice Hash Harvest Bowl. The ingredients include maitake mushrooms, avocado, and organic tomatoes—the portion was small but substantive, and gave me energy to get through the day. All I had to do was toss it on a skillet, heat it up, and put it back into the Daily Harvest cup.

For dinner, I had the Cauliflower Rice + Pesto Harvest Bowl, a low-carb bowl with basil, spinach, cashews, olive oil, and nutritional yeast. It was super flavorful, tasting a lot like a pesto risotto. Daily Harvest suggests you add pan-seared shrimp, white beans, or chicken for additional protein. After dinner, I had a Strawberry + Peach Smoothie as a healthy dessert. In addition to the fruity goodness, there are oats, flax seeds, and goji berries in the mix for an extra boost of fiber and iron.

Naturally Hydrating Benefits

While we may not always think about it, fruits and veggies are incredibly hydrating. Did you know—strawberries are 91% water and peaches, 89%. Veggies like cauliflower, from my dinner, are 92% water. (Don’t worry, I didn’t know either.) This all adds up, and when I enjoy Daily Harvest, I’m nourishing my body and, for once, I’m staying hydrated.

“Now I know that a little H2O goes a long way towards a clear mind, and that I can get it from a variety of foods.”

And that’s the thing; I’m what you could call chronically dehydrated. Instead of reaching for water, I used to think my headaches or grogginess were caused by other factors. Now I know that a little H2O goes a long way towards a clear mind, and that I can get it from a variety of foods. Hydration is a miracle worker in so many ways; it gives you energy, reduces bloating, supports digestion, and boosts nutrient absorption, to name a few perks. Basically, it beautifies you from the inside out.

The hydrating fruits and vegetables you get from Daily Harvest are hand-picked from the farms they’re grown on for the freshest, most nourishing ingredients. It’s then frozen within hours of harvest to lock in freshness. When you open up a cup, you’ll see large chunks of fruits and veggies—and once it’s heated up or blended, you can’t tell it was ever frozen.
